All the glories of the beach in autumn

The beach in autumn is the perfect escape for those who love tranquillity, mild temperatures and the water. It’s also a great place to unwind and switch off from the noise of life, just long enough to recharge. Your body, your mind and your soul with thank you for any time that you spend by the sea.

Here is my list of the reasons why the seaside is far more wonderful in the autumn than you may think.

The Calm and Peacefulness

evening on the beach

Stress and anxiety is something that many of us try to manage on a daily basis. Our lives have become so busy!
So many people suffer from stress, anxiety and depression and the sea can be the ideal way to combat it. If you feel your work or personal problems starting to overwhelm you, try an escape to the sea. The sound of the waves can cause a sensation of relaxation and tranquillity. It certainly works for me. Try it.

The Sea Breeze

The healthy sea breeze is another reason to also enjoy the beach in autumn. Did you know they say that the sea breeze increases serotonin levels? Yes, that substance which is being talked up so much by its power of influencing your spirit. It also influences the functioning of other aspects of your body.

Improve Your Concentration and Your Creativity

writing by the sea

My thinking always improves by the sea. This is why in September, we put a all writing desk in The Red Beach Hut. Sitting in a chair, looking out to the sea helps concentration and boosts awareness when you’re studying and reading books. Many great writers plan weekend escapes to places with a beach to find their muses and inspiration, since creativity is enhanced by the open space, nature and sounds we can feel near the sea.

Enjoy Nature

There’s just something about being outdoors and among nature that makes life feel so much better. There is so much to explore around Walton On The Naze. Yes, you can even see seals! The beauty of The Naze is amazing, or a simple walk along the beach to Frinton. You’ll thank me for it.

Become a better parent

I swear by this one. Self-care is so important. By taking time out for yourself, you’ll become a better parent. The seaside isn’t just for the kids. It’s for us too. Enjoy a date night with our evening beach hut hire, or a girls day away. Or start writing that book you’ve always thought about, or maybe cirl up to read a good book. The time is yours. All yours.

Enjoy. ❤️

Evening swims at Walton On-the-Naze

Evening swims at Walton On-the-Naze are a glorious experience. There’s something so special about an open water swim at night.

I remember swimming late at night at the lake in Canada, as a teenager. I started wondering, why did I only do these things in my youth? As I approach 50, I am thinking that taking an evening dip in the sea would be an unforgettable experience for swimmers of all ages. Definitely one for the bucket list! Why wait? Enjoy sunsets and swims at Walton On-the-Naze at The Red Beach Hut.

Warm Evening Swims at Walton On-the-Naze at The Red Beach Hut

The darkness of the night sky and the mesmerizing lapping of the water in the sea on a warm summer or autumn night, surely that must make you feel truly alive! I suspect that it is both relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Guaranteed to bring out a smile. I think that maybe it’s the peacefulness. I love the beach at night, with the daytime crowds gone. This combined with the hint of danger (or the risk of discovery, if you’re skinny-dipping) – totally irresistible. Plus you can watch the setting sun or the stars above and the lights twinkling on the shoreline.

Night swimming is amazing, but careful not to get caught up in the magic and forget to use common sense. Bring a friend or family members so you aren’t swimming alone. Don’t go beyond your depth. Be sensible. And check that there is enough light. We will offer Sunsets and Swims beach hut hire for any evening, but we will highlight nights with a full moon, making swimming around those dates particularly well lit and spectacular. There is a great article about night swimming in the open water on the Arena Swim website.

If you’re intrigued by the idea of swimming at night, book The Red Beach Hut. Have a wonderful place to keep your clothes dry, so no one can run off with them, leaving you in a pickle! Plus a lovely place to dry off and enjoy a hot drink afterwards. Night swimming is memorable — definitely something for the bucket list. Just don’t wait until you are 50 to experience it!

Thank you to Steve Peak for letting g me use his amazing video. ❤️

Picasso Moments

I’m feeling pretty happy right now, but it’s not always been this way. I’ve been noticing that I’m feeling happy because I was not really smiled very much for the past 15 years or longer. Through my husband’s recovery from alcoholism, then our separation, then our divorce, then all the challenges in that period of time leading up to his death. And then after his loss …I lost my smile.

It’s hard. It’s really hard loving an alcoholic because there’s that part of you that hopes deep inside that things will change. Mixed in with the anger, the regret – the bundle of emotions. And in that whole bundle, happiness and joy just gets devoured. It gets forgotten.

I forgot how to smile.

There were moments of happiness. I would call them Picasso Moments, those little, little pockets where just in the moment, you wanted to capture it and frame it because it was beautiful. The Picasso Moments. I grew to look for those and enjoy them. I think that was probably the first step that I took over all those years, just looking for little moments that could make me smile, making a conscious choice to look for them despite all of the chaos that was going on around me.

When all of the guilt, the doubt, the insecurities, the anger, the regret, the sadness. That was all bundled inside of me. But now I’m smiling. And this is a real smile. It’s not just one for the camera. This is real. And I’ve been feeling this way for weeks now. And that all happened during the pandemic, during the lockdown, when I was forced to slow down and all these things that I thought about doing, I actually started thinking and I started making some changes, making some different choices, things that I normally do.

I’m putting myself first and actually choosing to look for joy in life, bring it back into my life again.

Then somewhere along the way it all changed. And I can tell you exactly when that moment was. And it was at that moment where something happened to make me feel it was okay to let go, let go of the past, to let go of all those emotions, all those hard memories. They kept pulling me back. I was able to let go and move forward. Blossome has come from this is that desire to help more people feel this way and find that smile again because you can, and you will. It’s in there and through blossom bottle, through my blog, through my podcasts and hopefully my writings one day through a book. And through speaking, I hope to share with you my story and the things that I’ve done that I’ve learned to do along the way to find this smile again because you can too. You might not feel like it right now. You can. I promise you, you can. And I hope to be the one that’s able to help you because it’s wonderful. I hope to help people blossom again, open up to joy and get that smile back.

It can all start with taking a day to do noting at all, at The Red Beach Hut. Go on, hire the beach hut. ❤️

The Red Beach Hut Stories that make you smile

I’m rather excited to be writing this first article. More of a note really, a promise to myself. A promise to make time for the things that bring out this smile.

It’s during time spent at the beach hut that I listen more carefully to those inner callings, the whispers that evoke the tingle of something new.

I seem to hear them more clearly when I escape to The Red Beach Hut.

It is my little escape.

My happy place.

A place to switch off from the noise of life.

A place to close my eyes and remember my hopes and dreams.

A place where I can see my wishes come to life, in my thoughts.

A place where I can plan.

A place that lifts my spirits.

The place the helps me heal as I remember the lost love, the life that didn’t quite unfold the way I had hoped and planned for.

The beach hut is going to be play place to explore my inner callings, the desire to do something different, to write, to explore, and most importantly to find joy and express this joy through Red Beach Hut stories. Sounds simple enough. Certainly sounds enjoyable.

It’s time that I got started. Time to stop talking about it and to just do it. You can do it too, when you hire The Red Beach Hut.

I look forward to sharing some stories, memories, thoughts and discoveries, exploring the Walton On-the -Naze with you and opening up to joy.

It’s going to be fun. ❤️
